There are errors in recording their names and addresses that led to the confusion, said an EC officer.
A check with the EC online database showed that the first pair of voters having the name of Wong Wai Seng (800411085535 and 871008085525) are registered in the parliamentary seat of Parit and state seat of Belanja, and share the same block and house number in Taman Seri Ara (below).
The second pair of voters having the name of Wan Mohd Zamri bin Wan Ahmad (RF162733 and RF162584) are registered as postal voters at the Kuang police station, located in the state seat of Kuang and parliamentary seat of Selayang (below)
However, the EC online database provided two different results for the owner of identity card number RF162584.
The multiple verification tool called Sistem Semakan Pemilih Bagi Isi Rumah, which enables a user to check more than one identity number at one time, showed that both the owners of RF162733 and RF162584 are named Wan Mohd Zamri bin Wan Ahmad.
But when the identity number of RF162584 was verified using the single search tool called ‘Semakan Daftar Pemilih’, which enables a user to check only one identity number at one time, the result showed that RF162584 belongs to another police officer in Kuang police station named Zaizul Zamri bin Zainudin (below).
These identity numbers were published by political researcher Ong Kian Ming last week.
Ong is the project director of Malaysian Electoral Roll Analysis Project (Merap), which has been providing statistics and evidence on electoral irregularities to back the demands of the electoral reform coalition, Bersih.
‘All four voters are different individuals’
After receiving an inquiry from Malaysiakini last week, an EC officer who declined to be named but is authorised by the EC to respond on the issue, confirmed today that all four voters are different individuals with valid identities.
He revealed that one Wong Wai Seng should be registered at another address.
“(They are) two different people but I don’t know how come both stay in same address. By right one should stay in Tapah and one in Parit. Will investigate accordingly,” he replied in a text message.
As for the discrepancy in the name of the holder of identity number RF162584, he admitted that it was a mistake and the correct name should be Zaizul Zamri bin Zainudin.
